Above All, Love (Saturday, Micah 6 & 1 Peter 4)

It's been good being part of this blog, and spending time lingering on passages of the Bible, and trying to think more deeply about God's Word. The Word is infinitely deep, so there will always be more depth to plumb, it's just a matter of whether we are willing to spend that time making it happen.

For my last post I just want to reflect on one simple little phrase, that is of enormous consequence in our lives.

1 Peter 4:8 says, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." What a wonderful, encouraging and revolutionary thought. I love how simple the Gospel is in it's essence, and how straight forward the Christian life is meant to be.

Often we over-complicate things to the extent that we are kind of paralysed by not knowing how to accomplish all the ins and outs of what we think we ought to be doing in a life pleasing to God. Jesus said we are to be like little children when we come to Him- open, with ears to hear, and to understand the simple truth of things. And so I love the simplicity of this command to love.

As much as I'm often baffled and stressed by the complexities of relationships in a fallen world, it is so refreshing to hear 'just love each other, and the rest of it will kind of take care of itself.' When we are loving others as God loves us, we are living according to His will for us, and we are less likely to stuff things up. The love lays a blanket over the rest of the messiness of life. I like that.
